What interim improvements can be made to improve congestion?

There are several interim intersection projects on US 290 between IH 610 and Jones Road that have been given the go-ahead, which should help traffic move before the main construction begins. Work on the following improvements is scheduled to begin in late 2008:

  • Dacoma Road westbound frontage road — striping changes to make exclusive left-turn lane; change the middle lane to optional left-turn and through lane.
  • West 43rd Street eastbound frontage road — increase radius at intersection to better accommodate large trucks.
  • West 43rd Street westbound frontage road — change optional left-turn lane to exclusive left-turn lane; change through lane to optional left-turn and through lane.
  • Pinemont Drive — improve signage.
  • Hollister Road — widen westbound frontage road to add an exclusive right-turn lane and improve signage.
  • Fairbanks N. Houston westbound frontage road — widen approach to add an exclusive right-turn lane.
  • Fairbanks N. Houston intersection — install pedestrian crossing signals.
  • North Gessner — improve pavement markings and install lane use signs on traffic signal mast arms on northbound and southbound approaches.
  • Beltway 8 frontage roads — install appropriate route marker signs on all approaches to intersection.
  • Jones Road westbound frontage road — widen approach to add an exclusive right-turn lane. This improvement will add a through lane in order to improve capacity at the intersection.
  • Senate Avenue westbound frontage road — add an exclusive left-turn lane by revising median curbs.
