- What exactly is involved with the EIS?
-
An EIS (Environmental Impact Statement) is a report that documents the information required to evaluate the environmental impact of a project. The EIS includes an evaluation of alternatives, number of lanes, roadway configuration and operational characteristics of the new highway. It can also include a discussion of the effects on socioeconomics, travel patterns, hazardous materials, cultural resources, traffic noise, air quality, biological resources, water resources, floodplains, and wetlands. It informs the public and decision makers of the reasonable alternatives that would avoid or minimize adverse impacts or enhance the quality of the environment.
The draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) is now available.
