As of June 15, 2010, crews had completed pavement widening and re-striping activities on the US 290 outbound mainlanes to accommodate the conversion of the existing one-lane exit ramp to Jones Road to a two-lane exit ramp. This change helps to ease mainlane traffic congestion by providing improved access to this major cross street, which in turn prevents intersection traffic from stacking on the mainlanes.

By mid-June 2010, construction crews were wrapping up mainlane pavement widening activities to accommodate the addition of an auxiliary lane between the US 290 inbound entrance ramp from Beltway 8 and the US 290 inbound exit ramp to Fairbanks North Houston road. Auxiliary lanes are lanes located between entrance and exit ramps that assist in mitigating mainlane traffic congestion by providing motorists additional time and space to transition between these ramps.

To accommodate the conversion of the existing one-lane outbound US 290 exit ramp to W. 43rd Street to a two-lane exit ramp, crews had completed pavement widening and re-striping work by mid-June 2010. This change helps to ease mainlane traffic congestion by providing improved access to this major cross street, which keeps traffic at the intersection from backing up on to the mainlanes.

This photo from June 15, 2010, shows the new two-lane exit to W. 43rd Street. Motorists can now either continue to travel in the left exit lane and use the newly completed U-turn/left-turn lane, or transition into the right exit lane to use the left/through lane.

By mid-June 2010, renovation work at the US 290 outbound frontage road/W. 43rd Street intersection was complete. Construction at this intersection entailed re-striping the frontage road, as well as pavement widening and re-striping to convert the existing U-turn only lane into a joint use U-turn/left-turn lane. That lane conversion assists in mitigating frontage road traffic congestion by providing improved access through this major intersection; as part of the TSM projects, similar intersection improvements have been completed at Senate Avenue, Gessner Drive, Fairbanks North Houston Road, Tidwell Drive, Hollister Drive, Antoine Drive and W. 34th Street.
