US 290 is important to you and it is vital to the growth of the Houston region!

We at the Texas Department of Transportation want to ensure this busy highway will keep on benefiting the community for many years to come. That’s why we are planning a major renovation of US 290.

With actual construction now fewer than two years away, we are here to keep you informed of all the program developments as they happen.

NEW!

Proposition 12

In November 2009, the US 290 Program was awarded $314.6 million from voter approved Proposition 12, to advance design and construction activities to 2011. Click here for more information on Proposition 12.

Presentation Information!
The Program Management Team provides regular presentations to stakeholders upon invitation. About twice a month US 290 Program representatives give an overview presentation to business and civic groups along our corridor, and we wanted to share here on the website some of the information we provide. Click here to view our PowerPoint presentation, and click here to see the 3D Flyover Video of what the new US 290/Hempstead Tollway/IH 610 interchange will look like.

INFO TO KNOW!

Thank You!
Again, we want to thank everyone who has been actively participating in our program and our Environmental Impact Statement process. Based on your feedback and further study since release of the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) and the Public Hearings in July 2007, TxDOT has developed a Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS), which is currently under review by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). Currently we cannot say with certainty when the FEIS will be released for public comment. That release can only happen once all comments from the FHWA have been addressed and all agency reviews completed. We will advise you once federal approval for the FEIS release is obtained. The public comment period must occur before we request a Record of Decision (ROD) from the FHWA, which we anticipate will occur in 2010. This date is only a reasonable estimate at this point and is subject to change depending on the progress of the review process. If a ROD is granted, that will conclude our environmental process -- another milestone in the effort to bring relief to this highly congested corridor.

You can still view the DEIS Executive Summary, the full report, and related maps of the proposed improvements by clicking here. As soon as we receive federal approval to release the FEIS, we will post the document and any map updates on this website as well. Please stay tuned over the coming months.

The DEIS map drawings are online!
Based on your valued input at the 2007 US 290 DEIS public hearings, we worked to place the DEIS map drawings online to better meet your needs! View these preliminary maps.
